Roureda Llicorella 2005, about $15 a bottle

Wine was rated 91 points by Wine Spectator magazine. This is a fantastic red wine from the Priorat region of Spain (Catalunya). It is comprised of 40% Garnacha, 5% Merlot, 40% Marzuela, 5% Tempranillo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. I recently attended a cooking class hosted by 3 chefs from Barcelona and this wine was one of the ones served. I instantly fell in love with the  fragrant nose of mineral, slate, earth, red and black currant flavors. The word Llicorella means limestone in Catalan.  The fruit is ripe and sweet with racy style and lots of flavor.  It is an excellent value in a Priorat wine. You will have to pay $30 to $50 a bottle to have a wine to rival  this one.
